AFTERPLAY by Brian Friel – 27th April
This play features two Chekhovian characters who meet twenty years after we last encountered them in each of Chekhov’s plays – Sonya from ‘Uncle Vanya’ and Andrey from ‘Three Sisters’ meet in a Moscow café and exchange stories.
The characters provide an evening of comfort to each other in a revolutionary Moscow that neither would have recognized twenty years before.
Cast & Crew
Sonya – Alex Priestley
Andrey – David John
Directed by Chris Avery
About the group
Meridian was formed around 20 years ago, and was based at Comberton Village College. This was until 2005 where the group unfortunately drifted apart. In 2014, several ex-Meridianites starting talking about the possibility of reviving the group, eventually making their welcome return to the festival scene in 2016.
Their production of THE DONAHUE SISTERS by Geraldine Aron was very successful in the Sawston, Cambridge and Welwyn Drama Festivals – winning a second place and two third places. This was in addition to awards for Best Stage Presentation and Best Actress.
They are now looking to do some full length plays. This involves looking for a Cambridge venue which won’t involve them all taking out second mortgages to pay for the hire. Watch this space!
