Great news!
With the recent news of the government roadmap designed to get us out of lockdown, the Festival committee met to discuss plans to bring back the Cambridge Festival of Drama. We’re really pleased to announce that the 2021 Festival will be held from 16th–18th September 2021 at the ADC Theatre, with adjudicator Bob Tomson. Entries are now invited and the closing date is 31 May.
Here’s more from our Secretary, Chris Avery:
That’s the headline news, but of course there’s lots more to tell you. After the disappointment of cancelling the 2020 Festival, we’re very excited to be going ahead with this year’s. We’re also keeping everything crossed that Covid doesn’t throw another spanner in the works, as of course the plans are dependent on the continued success of the vaccine rollout and the consequent lifting of restrictions. But we have a venue, and we have dates, and we have an adjudicator! His name may not be familiar to you as he’s a new member of GoDA, but we’ve met him (online of course) and we’re very impressed. He’s a director of many years’ experience, in the West End and internationally, and has won and been nominated for every award you can think of. More importantly, he’s a very nice bloke, and is delighted to have been asked to adjudicate our Festival.
So please get thinking about what you might enter this year. You may have something which you were rehearsing a year ago which you’d like to revive, or you might want to do something new. Please send us your entry forms and scripts, to reach us by the closing date of Monday 31 May. If you can get them to me before then, so much the better, as those of us who read the scripts and put together the programme have less time to do so this year.
As in 2019, there will be evening sessions on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and an afternoon session on the Saturday. We also hope to hold workshop sessions on the Saturday, which this year will focus around acting and directing skills.
Entry packs are available below (in ZIP files) or as individual files via our Downloads page. We have given you a choice of DOCX or PDF format, depending on your needs.
We look forward to receiving your entries. In the meantime we would also love it if you could share this news via your own social media to help spread the word about this great, positive news – just use the buttons below.
So tell us;
Where does your group find itself as we start coming out of lockdown? Have you got any plans for any forthcoming shows? Have you got any thoughts about plays to enter for the Festival?
Let’s make this a real celebration of drama – a wonderful opportunity to show that the theatre community is alive and well, and looking forward to getting back on stage.
