Hello everyone
I’m very pleased to tell you that the 2022 Cambridge Festival of Drama will be held from Thursday 15 September to Saturday 17 September at the ADC Theatre, Cambridge, and that our adjudicator will be Nancy Heath GoDA. I hope lots of you will want to enter this year – we had a great Festival in 2021, despite the uncertainties caused by Covid, and we’re hoping for even better this year now that groups are able to meet, rehearse and perform plays once again.
It would be wonderful to have a full four sessions for the Festival – and if enough teams send in entries we should be able to extend the Festival to other evenings earlier in our week. The closing date for entries is Tuesday 31 May.
We have new ways to enter too
To make things easier for you this year, we’re making it possible for you to do everything necessary to submit an entry online – complete the entry form, and, if you are submitting an original unpublished script you will be able to send it electronically rather than having to print it out and post it. If you wish to take up this option, we will have to make a small charge at the time of submission to cover our costs, but you will be able to make payment online. Please note that further charges may be made later for reprinting revised scripts.
Access the online entry form here (recommended)
The Entry Pack and manual entry form can be downloaded from our Downloads page.
Entry conditions and fees
It would be good to have a mix of new and established writing in the Festival, and recognising the considerable increase in the cost of performing licences, we are offering a contribution of up to £30 towards the cost of a licence for a script which is already in publication at the time of entering. We will need to see a receipted copy of the licence, from a recognised agency, before making this payment. Please note, though, that to comply with the requirements of the Copyright Act, we cannot accept photocopied versions of published scripts – you must submit an approved printed copy.
The entry fee will again be £40, although please note that we will not ask for payment until you have been notified that your entry has been accepted. We expect this to be around the end of June.
So what now?
So please get thinking – if you haven’t already been doing so – about which play you’ll enter, and make your submission as soon as possible. Early submissions are a great help to the committee, as it enables us to get ahead with reading them, and consequently to make a decision about the programme for the Festival earlier in June rather than later.
In the meantime we wish you every success with your productions this year, and don’t forget that we’re always delighted to help you promote them on our website and social media. Please send information to me, and I’ll pass them on to Chris (the other Chris!) to get them posted.
As always, if you’ve got any questions or need any assistance, do get in touch with us and we’ll do our best to help. Here’s looking forward to a great year of festivals everywhere in 2022 – and especially in Cambridge!
Best wishes from us all.
Chris Avery, Secretary
